Short: SeaDream II in Scheveningen

Today a different port, one that I have only visited a few times before and the first time I fly the drone here! Scheveningen is a coastal town in the Netherlands with beaches and a lighthouse combined with a small port, mainly used by fishing vessels and smaller cargo ships, occasionally there is a smaller cruise ship coming in and the location of the port combined with the lack of big heavy shipping makes this a perfect place to photograph these smaller cruise ships.

I got up a bit later than usual as we had plenty of time because the ship would arrive about 1pm, so I picked up Onno and Vadym from Onnozone in Eindhoven and we went to the Western side of Scheveningen towards the beach.

We went to grab a coffee at the beach bar and waited until the ship was in sight ... these days you can just track the ship on MarineTraffic, easy of course! We each picked our spot and I prepared the drone and my camera for a shoot of the ship coming in.

About the ship: This ship is of special interest to me. She started life at Wärtsilä Helsinki Shipyard, Finland in 1984 as Sea Goddes II, right after her sister Sea Goddes I. The exact circomstances are somewhat vague but as far as I know both ships were built for Sea Goddes Line that was owned by Cunard, in any case both ships appeared for a period in the Cunard brochures up until 1998 when they were transferred to the Cunard owned Seabourn Cruise Line and renamed Seabourn Goddes I and II. In 2001 both ships were sold to Sea Dream Yacht Club and renamed SeaDream I and II. Ever since they have been sailing in the upper market cruise industry and rarely become famous or making any headlines, they are pretty rare in my part of Europe so we decided we had to see her now before we missed her forever.

The ship docked at the very end of the Eerste Haven of Scheveningen and we went there to take some close-up photos of the ship before going back home.
