London in January

January 2024 can hardly be called a cold winter month, apart from a few freezing days!

I joined Onno and Vadym of Onnozone on a 4 day trip to London where we wanted to visit a few things that had been on our bucket lists for a while but we somehow never got around to actually visit. So here we go!

Day 1

This trip was intended to be a kind of museum overload, so on the first day I left early ... very early ... to go pick up Onno and Vadym in Eindhoven (Netherlands) and go to Hasselt (Belgium) trainstation where we took the intercity to Brussels-Midi and went to the international section where we took the (delayed) Eurostar to London St Pancras.

We arrived and went straight to the Novotel London Blackfriars to drop off our bags and fresh up a bit. Of course we were not about to sit down and do nothing, so ... our first stop was Tate Modern where we spent several hours before going on a walk around Millennium Bridge, Borough Market and eventually ending up at the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, concluding our first day of portfolio work for both our research and websites.

Day 2

This morning we had our first breakfast in the hotel, Novotel is a trusted brand in the upper regions of the Accor Group hotels so we had a lovely breakfast, this would be needed as today we had a full day scheduled!

We headed to the Victoria and Albert museum first and were hoping to find the large scale model of the famous Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth, only to find out that this museum is huge, but the model ... isn't here (if anyone knows where this model is ... please let me know?).

Our next option was the Science museum (where the model was originally located as far as I know) and after this, we still had some time to visit the Museum of Natural history ... although only partly. We decided to get some dinner in Soho and call it a night. Although I did make some time for a swim in the hotel, it's nice to have a hotel with swimming pool indoors and it relaxed me before finally going to bed.

Day 3

After breakfast, we went first to the highlight of the day ... the British Museum! Somehow I never went there before and we did spend most of the day here, and even then we didn't see everything!

NOTE: At certain moments in the future I will highlight some small topics from the various museums in separate short blogs!

We only went for a walk around the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and HMS Belfast afterwards before getting back to the hotel for our last evening.

Day 4

The last day of our field trip started as usual with breakfast at our hotel, then checking out but storing our bags for the day so we could go out one last time. Today our plan was simple ... another museum and then see where we end up. This time it was the National Maritime museum of Greenwich where we spent a good part of the time we had left, of course we decided to see the Cutty Sark as well and that would be all for this trip, we went to pick up our bags in the hotel and went home the same way we came, by Eurostar train back to Belgium.

THE END
